Health Information Administration (BS) at Dakota State University

The healthcare industry is expanding rapidly, and there are many opportunities for students to use business expertise in the industry.  The healthcare administration degree will focus on equipping students to work in roles that support and enable the healthcare delivery provided by practitioners like doctors and nurses. Graduates will be prepared to lead people, teams, and departments in large and small healthcare facilities to effectively and efficiently run those organizations.

The Healthcare Project Management course covers concepts and strategies to facilitate effective project management, including project selection and initiation, identifying teams and time management. In Healthcare Innovation and Quality, you will learn about innovations in health promotion, disease prevention and patient safety; you will examine measurement systems, data collection and medical informatics usage. Fiscal Management focuses on managerial accounting, cost analysis and budgeting.

Global Health Leadership has been designed to prepare leaders to identify and respond to situations challenging our healthcare and community infrastructures. Leaders must learn how to be adaptive and agile in order to create more resilient and responsive health sustems. A framework will be provided to students to step back from current geopolitical restraints to challenge a global view of comprehensive healthcare delivery. Students will learn how predictive models are being used to support disease surveillance and the identification of community hot spots. An approach to solve a community health challenge will be designed utilizing the learnings of global best practices and adaptive and agile leadership skills.

The MBA focuses on examining an organization from a functional strategic approach. This approach includes emphasis on management, marketing, finance, accounting, and economic principles in both the domestic and international marketplaces. MBA students can become immersed in a concentration that best fits their goals. Concentrations are offered in accounting, health care management, human resources, management, and marketing.
