Masters in Language & Literature in Canada

In our MA, you will study French literature, language and culture. You can also do a concentration in Cultural, Social & Political Thought (CSPT). Faculty specialities include French, Quebec, French-Canadian, African and Caribbean literatures, culture and theory, cinema, theatre, Indigenous literatures, creative writing, research-creation, queer theories, digital humanities and theoretical and applied linguistics. You will take courses in research methods and professional practices. This program is dynamic and designed to foster a close-knit cohort. Choose a project-based option or a thesis option.

The Department of Linguistics is pleased to offer both Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in Theoretical Linguistics. Our students pursue original research in a variety of linguistic subdisciplines, including core theoretical areas (e.g. phonology, morphology, syntax) and combined areas (e.g. historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, cognitive linguistics).  The department continues to encourage collection of primary data through fieldwork with native speakers of understudied and endangered languages, and increasingly our students are finding fruitful projects based on experimental and corpus data.
