Vancouver Island University

The history of Vancouver Island University goes back to 1936 when a local garage and mechanic decided to train eight boys as automotive mechanics in a shed-turned-classroom. After two years, the federal and provincial governments started funding vocational training in British Columbia and the local mechanic’s workshop was shifted on the property of Thomas Hodgson School. It was then officially named The Dominion-Provincial Youth Training Center in 1938. Based on the crucial evolutionary steps taken at Malaspina College and Malaspina University-College, the final switch towards the Vancouver Island University, Canada, took place in April 2008.
