Cleveland State University’s historical roots go back to the 19th Century when Cleveland YMCA started offering day and evening

courses to students who did not have access to higher education in 1880. The program was reorganized as the Associate Institute in 1906 and was established as Fenn College in 1929. In 1964, Cleveland State University was established as a state-assisted university by accepting the building faculty and curriculum of Fenn University.
