The Bachelor of Science (Health) and Master of Nursing provides a thorough grounding in health and health systems at the local, national and global levels, while developing the knowledge, skills and experience to become a registered nurse.

How will you learn?

Both degrees are taught on campus, with lectures and tutorials. You will also complete a substantial amount of practical work, with over 800 hours of clinical placements in the nursing component of your degree.

The Bachelor of Science (Health) explores the complexity of health and healthcare provision across different sociocultural, political and economic contexts. You will:

• complete a major in health with core units in areas such as human biology, psychology and eHealth, ensuring you gain a broad knowledge of healthcare and its latest developments before pursuing elective units in areas of your interest.

Leveraging the skills and knowledge of your science degree, in the Master of Nursing:

• you will experience hands-on learning with over 800 hours of clinical placements to develop a comprehensive understanding of professional nursing practice.
• you will learn to understand the impact of nursing practice within local and global health contexts, and across changing healthcare systems.
• upon graduation, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

If you have graduated from a Monash Bachelor of Health Sciences or Bachelor of Public Health this honours year is designed for you. You also might be eligible if you come from another discipline. You'll be supervised primarily by staff from the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, although opportunity exists for you to identify a project and co-supervisor with Monash partner organisations such as the Burnet Institute, the Baker-IDI (Heart and Diabetes Institute), and others.

In keeping with the degree's focus on health in a global context and the breadth of expertise in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (SPHPM) and its partner organisations, it is expected that a range of local, national, and internationally-focussed honours projects will be available.

Global Health intercalated BSc course equips medical students with the knowledge and skills to critically engage with global health issues. Students will benefit from exploring social, political, economic and anthropological perspectives on the main challenges faced in providing healthcare across the globe. Health and Medical Sciences (BSc) is a new course offered by Warwick Medical School. It helps you to investigate current local and global problems in health from multiple perspectives.

Before your internship, you’ll have courses that give you knowledge and skill related to activity techniques, injury prevention, the microcomputing applications and fitness testing equipment used in the field. You’ll have the skills in help others enhance their performance and increase their quality of life.

The BS in Public Health provides students with two options: Community Health, and Emergency Management  Disaster Preparedness. If you are interested in Health Administration, check out the B.S. in Health Administration program. All Public Health majors complete an 8-semester hour, 320-clock hour internship in a workplace setting appropriate to their career goals.

Epidemiologists help to prevent and control disease outbreaks. When you see reports of E.coli on grocery store produce or alerts about salmonella linked to restaurant chains, those are examples of epidemiologists at work.

It’s all about tracking down what the disease is, where it started and where it’s going next so people have the information they need to protect themselves.

The Epidemiology emphasis (PHEP) at WSU is designed for students who want attend graduate school for careers in health-based research and epidemiology.

The Epidemiology emphasis can also offer an advantage in your future career if you’re in a pre-professional program for medicine or dentistry. You’ll better understand the mechanisms behind the diseases in the patients you treat.

Public health combines a prevention orientation with a population perspective in pursuit of better health for all members of society. Public health professionals deal with critical large-scale issues such as access to health care; chronic disease control; mapping, predicting, and containing outbreaks of infectious disease; as well as researching factors such as gender, poverty, and education that contribute to health outcomes. Public health has close ties with medicine through clinical and biomedical research and healthcare policy.

The Public Health Studies Program offers undergraduates a major that links them to the world of public health through core courses taken on the Homewood campus, as well as electives taken at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH).

Core coursework at Homewood includes Introduction to Public Health, Research Methods in Public Health, Fundamentals of Epidemiology, Environment and Your Health, Fundamentals of Health Policy and Management, Biostatistics, and a course in Social and Behavioral Health. Students also take coursework in Social Sciences, Biology and Calculus. Students will select additional public health coursework from a range of options that include the global health, demography, health economics, medical sociology, history, and politics. The major is flexible and easily adapted to further course work in the natural and social sciences. About two-thirds of Public Health Studies majors complete the premedical core curriculum.

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health is a new undergraduate program that evolved from the previous B.S. in Community Health. The Public Health degree was offered for the first time in Fall 2016 and is designed to promote an understanding of health and disease based on public health principles. Students will learn to apply social, behavioral, policy and educational interventions to help shape population health. Students will also learn how to assess needs of target populations, create program goals and objectives, and develop strategies to foster health behavior change interventions for individuals and communities.
