History

The Lower-Saxony Network for Teacher Education was founded in 1946 and acted as a Teacher’s Training University. Then it was known as “Alfeld lecture courses of the Hildesheim Teacher Training College.”

In 1978, the Lower-Saxony Network for Teacher Education became a university itself. It was only in 1989 that the diversification officially received full university status. This is what is known as the University of Hildesheim today.
