Building Science (MBSc) at Toronto Metropolitan University

This is a very exciting time for planetary science, with new data being returned by spacecraft from planets within our own solar system and thousands of planets now being discovered orbiting other stars. There is also growing scientific interest in the likelihood of life elsewhere in the universe.

With our BSc Planetary Science with Astronomy you will learn more about all of this and develop your knowledge of the solar system and its wider astronomical context. You will study subjects ranging from astronomy and astrobiology to geophysics and remote sensing. You will develop skills in the manipulation of scientific data and critical assessment of scientific hypotheses and experience actual scientific research during project work.

The BSc Social Sciences is a flexible, interdisciplinary degree that will give you the theoretical tools and knowledge to better understand the social-political world, why social inequality persists and how your own life experiences intersect with wider social structures, such as 'race', class and gender. The knowledge and skills that you will build on this course are highly valued in today's world of work and will build your capacity as a thinker, communicator and analyst. It will enable you to become a competent, critical and responsible researcher of the social world with the ability to make informed choices about research methods and apply them competently.

The course is structured around four themes that cover the fundamentals of social theory, social and public policy, and research methods. You can choose from option modules in geography, history, politics, philosophy, development studies, psychosocial studies, anthropology, social policy and sociology, so you can make the degree your own, focusing on your own interests, strengths and experiences.

The BSc Social Sciences with Foundation Year will introduce you to the main academic ideas, theories and issues within the social sciences and help you understand, analyse and write about contemporary debates. You will receive intensive support to develop the skills and knowledge required to undertake undergraduate studies.

This programme will build your confidence and give you the core knowledge and key skills you need to succeed at university. You will also get a taste of the subject area you are interested in and deepen your understanding of the career potential of your chosen subject.
