The MA and MSc degree programs are research-intensive and focused on the creation of a thesis. This original work will show advanced research and knowledge of the environmental studies. You’ll have to attend a three day field camp at the beginning of our program.

The Master of Science in Environment and Geography is the appropriate science-stream graduate program option for those interested in furthering their academic training in the areas of environmental sciences, including physical geography.

It is an integrative program with strong linkages between physical geography, environmental science and many disciplines within the physical and natural sciences, including earth and agricultural sciences, chemistry, biology, physics and applied mathematics.

Plant Science graduate program offers advanced study in applied plant biology, with a commitment to development of sustainable managed agroecosystems. Our graduate program offers opportunities for advanced studies in basic and applied research, leading to M.Sc. or Ph.D. degrees, in plant production, plant protection, plant biotechnology, plant physiology and biochemistry, and plant-environment interaction.

Graduate students have the option to develop research programs that address problems through an interdisciplinary approach involving collaboration with faculty members in other graduate programs (e.g. Soil Science, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, and Forest Science) on campus.

The MEnv in Environmental Assessment gives you a comprehensive background in scoping, data collection and analysis, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). You will explore all aspects and methodologies of the environmental assessment process as you effectively analyze technical reports and oversee complex projects. Objective assessments must identify all environmental risks associated with a proposal and offer solutions to mitigate those concerns. You will benefit from a four-month internship where you will work under professional supervision in a field related to environmental assessment. Potential placement after graduation includes all levels of government, international agencies, non-governmental organizations and private corporations. Now more than ever, we need specialists in federal environmental laws and policies to effectively develop impact studies before plans or programs are carried out.

The MASc and PhD programs provide a wide range of educational and research opportunities. The curriculum in each reflects the view that professional success in the field of environmental science and management requires individuals to build on their existing skills and knowledge to develop a broad-based interdisciplinary perspective. Students are supported by more than 100 faculty members and external associates from the full range of environmental disciplines including science, the social sciences, engineering, business, architecture, planning and public health.

Environmental scientists study the impact of human interactions on the biosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and atmosphere using an interdisciplinary and integrative approach. They provide us with the information we need to address some of the most pressing issues facing humanity today — such as climate change and the loss of biodiversity.
