The MEng Robotics course leads to a high-level qualification which is recognized by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), providing a fast route to Chartered Engineer status. If you don't have the scientific or mathematical background for our engineering degrees this degree with a foundation year is for you. The foundation year will build your skills and knowledge in related areas to ensure you're ready to move on to your degree.

You'll study modules in mathematics, further mathematics, physics and engineering. Each of these will introduce you to the key concepts and skills in the subject, from calculus to the structure of atoms, and your engineering module will give you the chance to apply this knowledge practically as well as introducing core engineering principles.

After successfully completing your foundation year you'll be able to progress to the first year of the four-year MEng Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering.

Your robotics degree

Robotics is a highly interdisciplinary branch of engineering, which requires technical skills from a range of engineering disciplines. During the degree you'll be taught by academics who are active researchers in robotics and mechatronics. You'll develop skills in designing, analysing and testing robots, autonomous vehicles and other complex electro-mechanical systems. In the last two years of the degree you'll have the opportunity to tailor your course to suit your interests with optional modules.

The MSc Robotics and Autonomous Systems is designed to equip students with the advanced knowledge and skills needed to develop the innovative solutions required by the emerging global industry in Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS), and across many other sectors where RAS skills are applicable. These may include robotics and automation in agriculture, food processing, transport, logistics, manufacturing, healthcare, and nuclear. The routine use of remote sensing techniques has become an indispensable element of many activities in our modern world. A huge variety of sensors on satellites, airplanes, unmanned aerial vehicles (“drones”), and other platforms provide data for a variety of applications on a regular basis. The MPS in “Applied Remote Sensing” offered by the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) and Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing (CSTARS) provides theoretical knowledge and experiential learning for careers in the field of remote sensing in both public and private sectors. Working professionals in this field may also acquire additional training to expand their current knowledge and skillset.

The Robotics track within the Master of Science in Engineering is interdisciplinary and requires six credits for developing strong foundations in advanced engineering math, and scientific computation and programming. The selections of the remaining credits are focused on developing advanced knowledge in an industrial robotics team environment consisting of four disciplines. Depending on the student’s background and interest, a student can choose nine credits from a primary discipline in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering as well as select up to nine credits from other disciplines. The track is flexible enough to develop both depth and breadth in robotics.
