The BA Accounting and Management is designed to give you a strong foundation in accounting and finance while also offering you the opportunity to develop particular expertise in management.

The accounting major provides a student with the foundation to excel as a certified public accountant, internal auditor, financial manager, controller, or consultant. Tools and techniques of planning, control, and decision analysis (including computer applications) are developed in broad areas such as financial and managerial accounting, taxation, consulting, cost analysis, computer auditing, and accounting systems.

An emphasis in Financial Planning prepares individuals with the skills necessary to plan and manage the financial interests of individuals. Students will develop not only their sales skills, the utilization of financial planning software, but also the personal and financial skills relevant to financial consulting and client relations. Courses are designed to offer students necessary information in areas such as insurance and investment planning, tax planning and estate planning. The program is recognized as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).

This major is sponsored by the Department of Accountancy in the Gies College of Business, in collaboration with the Departments of Statistics, Computer Science, iSchool, and Mathematics. The Accountancy +Data Science major is designed for students seeking to supplement their accounting foundation with a strong background in data science. The major prepares students for professional or graduate work in all Accounting fields, but particularly those focused on analytics.
