LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A laser is an electromagnetic equipment that produces a very thin beam of light compared to other sources like flashlights and bulbs.

  • In this thin, narrowed beam, all the light rays have wavelengths that are similar to each other. So all these light waves travel in sync, their peaks lined up perfectly. 
  • In scientific language, it is said that they move together in a 'phase.' The light that it produces is very bright.

  • Lasers are used in internet connections and televisions to carry signals.
  • A laser is also used in plenty of instruments that we use in daily life. It is used in DVD players, barcode scanners, and some parts of computers. One such is laser printers, which use laser beams for crisper and clearer prints.
  • Additionally, lasers are used for cosmetic purposes such as hair removal, acne treatment, and even cellulite removal.
  • Lasers are also used in heating treatments that harden a selected part of a surface with little to no distortion of the component. 
  • Lasers are also used in medical fields. As various types of lasers are used regularly in surgical procedures; where laser beams are used instead of surgical tools like scalpels.
