Masters in Natural Resources and Conservation in ${country}

On our Marine Ecosystems and Governance course you’ll develop an understanding of key concepts and issues. You’ll also develop the skills and qualities required for a career in academia or industry.

Through a combination of taught and research modules, our course will develop your understanding of:

• the roles of science, policy, technology and economic development in the marine environment
• marine environmental issues, their origins and possible solutions
• the principal processes maintaining and altering structure, function and ecosystem services of coastal waters
• the key concepts and methodologies used in ecosystem, environmental management and conservation science
• the context, purpose and implementation of resource mapping and evaluation

You’ll examine the challenges involved in managing historic buildings and look at the role they play in the sustainable revitalisation of our towns and cities.

As well as exploring the techniques of conservative repair, adaptation, retro-fitting and extension in depth, you’ll also analyse the legislation involved in the protection of historic sites. You’ll gain an understanding of the challenges heritage experts encounter in finding viable uses for at-risk buildings in ways that are economically, environmentally and socially viable, while managing to conserve what makes them special.

This course offers the ideal foundation for a fascinating career working within the heritage sector and the historic built environment.

Students in the Forestry option typically have an undergraduate degree in forestry or natural resource management. These degrees are specifically designed to meet the accreditation standards of a professional society. Those without this background may need to complete some additional coursework as part of their MS program. Areas of interest include forest resource economics and management, biometrics/measurements, forest health, forest ecosystem dynamics, and spatial data analysis (remote sensing and GIS).

The School of Forest Resources offers a Master of Forestry (MF) degree in Forestry.  The MF program is a professional, non-thesis master’s program.

The MF program prepares students for a rewarding environmental career in forest management by enhancing the abilities of professional foresters with prior experience and by allowing a career change for non-foresters.

The Forest Resources (FORR) Program is housed within the Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation. The Program offers three degree options: Master of Forest Resources (MFR), Master of Science (MS), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Enrollment in these programs is open to students who have earned a baccalaureate degree in forestry, forest products, or a related field.

• The MFR is a non-thesis, terminal degree that may be suited for students who will pursue a career in business, education, or other areas that do not require substantial research experience.
• The PhD and MS are research degrees that require a dissertation and thesis, respectively.

The Master of Forestry (MF) is a course-based degree program offered as part of a dual-degree partnership with other European and Canadian Universities: TRANSFOR-M (Transatlantic Forestry Master). This partnership is a unique course-based educational experience, which provides MF students with the opportunity to explore Forestry both in Europe and Canada.

The Master of Professional Science (MPS) in Climate and Society (CS) emphasizes the relationship between weather, climate and societal impacts.   This program provides advanced training for individuals seeking careers in government, insurance, energy, and a number of other weather-impacted industries.  Students in this track are fluent in both the fundamentals of business and the physical sciences
