Masters in Graphic Designing in ${country}

The Graphic Design MA at Kingston School of Art is a practice-based and research-orientated programme for practitioners who want to explore the scope of graphic design today and to envision its future purpose and possibilities. This course is conceived as a transformative launchpad, enhancing your long-term employment options through an appreciation of the local and global, personal and public, contexts of design. 

You will be taught by a team of experienced design practitioners, educators, and published researchers. You will visit professional design studios and hear from inter/national guest speakers from industry, work on live projects, on competitions, and participate in workshops.  

Underpinned by critical thinking we work across design fields such as; speculative design, information design, social justice, sustainable design and branding, visual identity, design pedagogy, interactive design, film, photography, typography, exhibition design, user experience, (digital and print) editorial design. With an emphasis on process you will be encouraged to innovate, invent and inspire change in an expanded future-facing approach to the discipline. 

We employ developmental models such as the Double Diamond (Design Council, UK, 2006) to help structure a holistic development of your research methods from initial observations and analysis, through seminars and reviews, and experimentation with media, to audience engagement. In this context, research is not only a working process it can also be considered an outcome in its own right. In a studio-based community of practice you will work collaboratively in teams and individually, with local communities, third sector groups and other disciplines to discover new methods and meaning through design. Theory and practice are integrated in a critical examination of the media, methods, concepts, histories and future technologies of design. 

The graphic design program at SIUE offers students experience in computer technology that will prepare them to enter an increasingly competitive job market. Students will have the opportunity to learn and become proficient in applications including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign through the creation of logos, posters, brochures, books and ad campaigns. In addition, the graphic design program includes courses that introduce students to web design. Courses in Adobe After Effects and Video allow students to explore creativity through the use of motion, as well as develop a visual language fitted for web publication.

The Digital Art & Design, M.F.A. – Graphic Design concentration is one of the most competitive and highly-regarded programs in the field, offering you the opportunity to develop strong conceptual, aesthetic, and innovative visual projects.

You’ll work in our advanced visualization facility using the latest industry-standard software and hardware, including 3-D printing/rapid prototyping, laser cutters, and immersive environments such as Oculus Rift. You’ll learn from accomplished, full-time faculty who are successful visual artists and creative multimedia designers with experience ranging from fine and digital arts to emerging technology such as virtual, augmented, and mixed reality.

MFA students focus on independently directed studio art practices guided by faculty mentors toward a research project that culminates in their thesis exhibition. Throughout the program work is produced in the Studio I-IV courses and discussed in the four Master Critique courses. These courses are thematically organized and change each semester to cover a range of current and relevant topics in Art and Design. Group critique sessions involving all MFA graduate students are the central feature of the Master Critique courses. Ideas and information gathered in these production and critique courses aid in directing the student toward his/her thesis. Elective courses support the student’s thesis work by developing and supplementing skills and knowledge outside the student’s primary studio art practice.
