We offer world-class venues and superb facilities, including more than 100 practice rooms, extensive library resources and the latest in music technology. As a performer, you will find various opportunities for international tours with professional orchestras, bands and chamber music groups.

You will also specialise in another subject area of your choice from the University's shared pool. Choose a major that can complement your performance studies such as European Studies, Film studies, or even a Music major.

This is a prestigious program of coursework and research in music for high achieving students who have completed a relevant undergraduate degree. You will undertake research methodology training and carry out an independent research or studio project on your selected topic, working closely with a supervisor who will provide you with individual guidance and academic counselling. The course offers a pathway to higher degree research in music.

Music is everywhere in the world around us; it is part of all of our lives, whether we play it, actively listen to it, or hear it in passing. At Oxford, we study music by reading, listening, performing and composing. We create music in all its aspects – acoustic, electronic, individually and communally, working with world-class professionals and with local communities. We analyse the relationships within a piece of music, and between that piece and its genre and context. Throughout the course, you will be exposed to music of all kinds and in all contexts: Western classical, popular music, musics of other cultures, community music, seeing these musics in terms of their social and cultural contexts (and how those contexts have been shaped over time).

Music has been part of the life of Oxford for more than 800 years. There are around 30 academic staff, of whom 15 give lectures regularly – scholars with distinguished reputations as musicologists, performers and composers. Oxford welcomes visits from numerous speakers and professional performing ensembles. Students enjoy performance and composition workshops, and play an active part in the life of the faculty and their colleges – in chapels, orchestras, ensembles, bands and stage performances, and in musical outreach to the broader community.

Delivered in one of the musical capitals of the world, this highly personalised degree leads to advanced work in four areas: history of western music, ethnomusicology, performance and composition. Students interested in performance will benefit from our partnership with the Royal Academy of Music, while those interested in composition will enjoy our expert teaching and access to London’s rich contemporary music scene. The course introduces all students to a broad range of theoretical and historical approaches to music, and will develop essential skills in critical thinking, expression and research. There is plenty of opportunity at King’s to participate in concerts and chamber music groups. You may audition for the KCL Symphony Orchestra (KCLSO), participate in various other student-led ensembles such as the Jazz Society Big Band or the Modern Music Society, or sing in the Chapel Choir. Our students often gain leadership experience in these performance groups. Concerts take place throughout the year. You are eligible to take performance modules as long as you have ABRSM Grade 8 in your chosen instrument or voice. Individual performance tuition is provided with a teacher from the Royal Academy of Music.

The department offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in Music, with concentrations in Classical Performance, Jazz Performance, and Recording & Electronic Music, as well as a general music program with broad elective offerings in music genres and history, classical and jazz performance, recording and electronic music, music therapy, and composition. All students majoring in Music are required to complete a minor or a second major in a subject other than music. A Music minor is also available. In graduate studies, we offer an acclaimed M.S. in Music Therapy. SUNY New Paltz is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

The Music department at WOU offers a range of major options, including a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science and several concentrations within the Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music program. The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree provides the study of music within the context of a liberal arts framework. The music content allows students to develop their musicianship skills, while the program grants the flexibility to choose elective courses within an area of interest either within the Department of Music or in another field of study.  This program would be an attractive option for students who wish to pursue a double major at Eastern Illinois University or would also provide a curricular platform for students who wish to prepare for graduate work in areas such as music theory, music history, music composition, music therapy, ethnomusicology, and arts administration.

Qualified undergraduates in composition, piano performance, or orchestral instruments performance may apply to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree awarded jointly by Peabody and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of the National University of Singapore. The joint degree aims to provide undergraduate music students from both conservatories with academic and performance experience in a global context.

Admission to the joint degree requires measures of assessment beyond the admission procedures for standard undergraduate admission. Peabody students who have matriculated to the BM program may apply for the joint degree in their second semester of study. In addition to their audition and interview, potential students must demonstrate a strong command of the English language and a grade point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants for the joint degree should also be capable of articulating why the joint degree program will have meaning for their musical and educational experience. Final admission decisions are made by a committee of faculty from both campuses.

Study music theory and technology, musicianship, and more alongside four years of private instruction in piano, opera, a standard orchestral instrument, voice, guitar, harpsichord, or organ.

The Bachelor of Music in Performance degree is a professional degree that allows students to focus on Music performance. Students will receive comprehensive training in Music and will have many opportunities for performing in a variety of settings by focusing on one of four tracks: Voice, Strings, Winds & Percussion, and Piano. The discipline and training acquired in this degree will facilitate careers and graduate study in Music Performance, as well as in private studio teaching and many other fields.  Entrance to this program is by audition only.

As a performing arts major with a concentration in music, you will take performance, studio, history, and seminars in theory. Songwriters, composers, and musicians of all instruments: you will develop the facility to perform at a professional level or attend graduate school.

In performance courses, you will be members and sometimes soloists in ensembles in front of live audiences. These courses emphasize collaborative skills and ensemble performance. In studio courses, you will study your instrument(s) (or voice as instrument) in depth. Studio courses highlight technique, repertoire, presentation, and ultimately, solo performance. History courses provide the context for all musical practice and enhance your ability to play, write about, promote, or work with artists playing the music of all periods.Seminar courses will give you the theoretical foundation for your craft. You will learn music theory including notation, harmony, counterpoint, composition, and software used in working with musical notation.

Our music education program will train you for an outstanding career as a musician and educator. You’ll perform often and build technical proficiency with studio work. Plus, you’ll be taught and mentored by professional musicians. In addition to your music studies, you’ll take education courses and spend time observing and teaching in local music classrooms. You’ll learn about child and adolescent development, exceptional learners, technology, curriculum, classroom strategies, methods of teaching and more. You’ll graduate ready to be licensed to teach instrumental, vocal and/or general music, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, in Ohio.

The MAT: music education is a full-time fifth-year professional degree program. This professional degree offers students a competitive edge in the search for teaching careers in the state of Georgia. The program is also designed for candidates from other institutions who hold bachelor degrees in music but who are not certified to teach, and those with a nonrenewable IN4T teacher certificate (all must pass the GACE PAA test). The coordinator will evaluate transcripts upon application to determine if the necessary pre-requisites have been met and develop individualized plans of study based on student needs.

The University of Mount Union’s Bachelor of Arts degree in music is flexible enough to tailor your education to meet your specific needs and interests while providing you with the history, theory, basic musicianship and practical skills necessary to achieve a successful career in music. As a music major, you will be provided with the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of courses and ensembles, from jazz band to keyboard ensemble, as well as participate in performance groups such as Wind Ensemble, Orchestra or Concert Choir.
