York University, usually referred to as YorkU or just YU, is a public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Its French name is Université York. With over 55,700 students, 7,000 faculty and staff members, and more than 325,000 alumni globally, it is the third-largest university in Canada. There are 11 faculties there, including the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, the Faculty of Science, the Lassonde School of Engineering, the Schulich School of Business, the Osgoode Hall Law School, Glendon College, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Health, the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design, and the Faculty of Graduate Studies. There are also 28 research centres.

 

Acceptance Rate 

On average, just 27% of applicants are accepted to York University Toronto. In other words, out of 206,297 candidates, 55,700 persons were accepted, with 57% being women and 43% being men. Out of 55,843 applicants, 49,700 students were accepted at York University based on previous student enrollment data.

 

Admission eligibility criteria  

International students must have a minimum GPA of B (85%) in graduate courses and 55–60% in undergraduate courses to be eligible for admission to York University. A minimum grade of 90% is needed to be accepted into a commerce programme at York University. To prove their proficiency in English, international students must get an IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL iBT score of 83.

Test Requirements  

Depending on the programme of study, different tests are required at York University. Here are a few general principles:

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing Service): The Academic Module requires a minimum score of 6.5. 
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): The minimum score necessary is 88 for the iBT1. IELTS General will not be accepted as proof of language proficiency, please note that.. The required score for the Pearson PTE Academic is 601.
  • Duolingo: A score of 120 is needed to proceed.

Application Deadline  

Application deadlines at York University differ. The deadlines for students attending Ontario High Schools are January 15, 2024 for the fall of 2024, April 1, 2024 for the summer of 2024, and November 1, 2023 for the winter of 2024. The deadlines are February 1, 2024 (for international students) for fall 2024 and summer 2024, April 1, 2024 (for everyone else) for summer 2024, and November 1, 2023 (for winter 2024) for out-of-province high school students, international students, university/college transfer students, and mature students. For some programmes, deadlines could change.
