IELTS

IELTS is universally recognized and widely accepted as the English language proficiency test worldwide, especially for those seeking higher education opportunities and global mobility. Whether your goal is academic advancement, career growth, or establishing a life in an English-speaking nation, IELTS can be your gateway to success.

It aims at evaluating the comprehensive skillsets required for successful study or employment in an English-speaking country. Its assessment will encompass the following skills in the English language:

  1. Listening - Measures your ability to listen to the recordings, comprehend concepts involved, and discern viewpoints.
  2. Reading - Assesses your ability to read, understand, and identify key ideas and details involved.
  3. Writing - Evaluates your capability to understand the question and craft a precise response, where you can organize your thoughts and employ an extensive range of vocabulary and grammar accurately.
  4. Speaking - Assesses your aptitude for speaking and conveying opinions, information, and viewpoints on various areas.

IELTS Band Score

IELTS Listening and Reading sections consist of 40 questions each.   Every correct answer is scored with one mark. The writing and Speaking sections contain 2 and 3 questions, respectively. Further, each of the four sections is scored on a scale of 0 to 9, and then an overall band score is calculated as an average, ranging from 0 to 9.

Each band score corresponds to a specific band level:

  • Band 0: Did Not Attempt Test
  • Band 1: Non-User
  • Band 2: Intermittent User
  • Band 3: Extremely Limited User
  • Band 4: Limited User
  • Band 5: Modest User
  • Band 6: Competent User
  • Band 7: Good User
  • Band 8: Very Good User
  • Band 9: Expert User

IELTS Band Score Calculation

IELTS band score of all four sections – Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking – is calculated to generate an average band score, i.e., overall IELTS band score. For instance, you have scored 7, 8, 8, and 9 in the reading, writing, speaking, and listening sections, respectively. The overall IELTS band score will be:

IELTS band score = (Reading band score + Writing band score + Speaking band score + Listening band score)/4

IELTS band score = (7 + 8 + 8 + 9)/4 = 32/4

Therefore, overall IELTS Band Score = 8
