What is AICTE? The full form of AICTE is the All India Council for Technical Education. Established as an advisory organization in 1945, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was granted statutory status by a Parliamentary Act in 1987. The AICTE gives its permission for the establishment of new technical schools, the addition of new courses, and changes to the number of students that can enroll in such institutions. The AICTE has granted the relevant state governments the authority to review and approve new institutions, as well as to initiate new courses and change the number of students admitted to technical institutes at the diploma level. Norms and standards are also established for these kinds of institutions. Through the certification of technical programs or institutions, it also guarantees the growth of technical education of a high caliber.

The Role and Functions of AICTE

  • The All India Council for Technical Education is in charge of overseeing the nation's technical education infrastructure and advancing its growth.
  • The Human Resources and Development Ministry (HRD) of the Government of India established the National Working Group to oversee AICTE's involvement in increasing the number of technical schools and maintaining the necessary standards in the same. The Working Group states that AICTE has the legal authority required to improve its functions. To meet the necessary goals, the AICTE is assigned several duties and responsibilities.
  • The statutory authority in charge of creating and upholding the rules and standards is the AICTE.
  • It also handles the process of ensuring quality through school accreditation, which involves assessing an institution's operations and services to make sure they adhere to the necessary requirements.
  • The AICTE funds the functional sectors based on their priority after monitoring and assessing them.
