Important Note Regarding Practicing After BHMS in the US: The US government does not recognize the BHMS program from India. However, you can apply for the certification from CHC (Council for Homeopathic Certification) and establish a private practice in the US. 

You can also pursue higher studies in the US to become a medical doctor (MBBS) and legally practice homeopathy anywhere in the country. Hence, the jobs after BHMS and salary in the US can vary based on your certification and degree recognized by the US homeopathy board.

Eligibility for BHMS

The eligibility criteria for BHMS vary from institution to institution. But typically, students must have passed 10+2 with a science stream from a recognized board to leverage the scope in BHMS.

Here are the general eligibility criteria for students seeking a career in BHMS: 

  • 10+2 with PCB (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) and English as core subjects from a recognized board.
  • Minimum required score in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). 
The minimum Age Requirement17 years (as of December 31 of the same year as the NEET Exam).
Maximum Age Limit
  • 25 years or more for unreserved category students.
  • 30 years for reserved and PwD (Persons with Disability) category students.
Qualifying Marks
  • For 10+2: General category- 50%, OBC/SC/ST- 40%, PH- 45%.
  • For NEET: General category- 50 percentile, SC/ST/OBC- 40 percentile.

Is BHMS from India recognized in the US?

No, the US government doesn’t recognize the BHMS program from India. However, you can pursue the certification from CHC (Council for Homeopathic Certification) and then establish a private practice in the US. 

Can BHMS graduates pursue postgraduate courses?

Yes. BHMS graduates can pursue postgraduate courses such as MD in Homeopathy to become certified medical practitioners. 

You also have the option to study MSc in Homeopathy if you aim to pursue a career in research or specialized courses in areas like Pediatrics, Psychiatry, or Dermatology, among others.

How can I become a BHMS doctor?

To become a BHMS doctor, you must complete a 5.5-year undergraduate course in BHMS from a recognized university. After completing the course, you must register with the Indian Medical Council (IMC) if you wish to practice medicine in India.
