The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), situated in Birmingham, Alabama, is a public research university. With more than 24,200 academic and staff members and more than 53,000 positions at the university and in the health system, UAB, which was founded in 1969 as part of the University of Alabama System, has developed into the largest employer in the state. 

A medical center, academic buildings, the Hill Student Center, a bookstore, residence halls, and sports and recreation facilities with an aquatic center are all part of the university's sprawling campus. Numerous departments from 10 schools, 24 research centers, clinics, UAB hospitals, and field stations are located on the university campus. 

Students are welcome to enroll in 210 graduate courses and more than 50 bachelor's programs offered by the University of Alabama at Birmingham's 12 schools and colleges.
