Rochester Institute of Technology, situated in the town of Henrietta in Rochester, New York, is a private research university. This university was established in 1829 and is now classified as "R2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity". The institution's name was changed to Rochester Institute of Technology in 1944.

There are 78 bachelor's degree programs, 73 master's degree programs, and 11 PhD degree programs available at Rochester Institute of Technology. The college also provides 49 dual-degree programs in addition to these. At Rochester Institute of Technology, undergraduate students must finish an immersion to fulfill general education requirements. Three courses are concentrated in one subject during an immersion. 

The main campus of Rochester Institute of Technology spans more than 1300 acres and is situated in Henrietta, New York. In addition to this, Rochester Institute of Technology has campuses abroad in Dubai, China, Kosovo, and Croatia.  Additionally, RIT has more than 300 student groups and organizations that cover a wide range of interests, including art, video games, music, politics, science, sports, and theatre.
