York St. John University, sometimes known as YSJ, is a public university in York, England, with a major urban campus. It was first founded as York Diocesan College. Founded in 1841, the institution attained university status in 2006, and in 2015, the university was granted the authority to issue research degrees for PhD and doctoral programs.

It belongs to the Cathedrals Group of Universities and is one of numerous universities with a strong religious component.

8,350 students were enrolled in five schools in 2022, reading a wide range of subjects: York Business School, School of the Arts, School of Education, Language and Psychology, School of Humanities, and School of Science, Technology, and Health. Situated near York Minster and the city walls on Lord Mayor's Walk, the institution boasts an eleven-acre campus in the heart of the city.

The almost 50 organizations and societies that make up the YSJ Students' Union (YSJSU) are dedicated to a variety of hobbies and activities, including sports, languages, music, theater, religion, and the arts.
