MSc (Obesity) at National University of Ireland Galway

The Health Informatics program prepares students to use Information Systems and Health Information Technology (HIT) to design, evaluate, adopt, and apply technology-based innovations in healthcare delivery, management, and research. Study will include aspects of data acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of health information to meet demands of current healthcare issues through innovative and entrepreneurial strategies. Courses will help students develop collaborative team skills, project management and leadership skills, along with the technical knowledge needed for data-informed decision making. Student will be able to articulate the various types of healthcare organizations, and ways that HIT is incorporated to solve problems in multidisciplinary real-life settings. 

The Applied Health Science major is for students interested in a career in a health-related profession. The major has tracks in Health Education and Promotion, Public Health, Occupational Therapy Preparation, and Healthcare Administration Preparation. All students completing this major will be eligible to become Certified Health Education Specialists. 

The Community Health Education major prepares health professionals to have expertise in public health, health promotion and disease prevention, and health education. Students completing this major are prepared for employment in educational settings, governmental agencies, private and voluntary health organizations, health care facilities, and business and industry. The Community Health Education major emphasizes the following skills necessary to become a Certified Health Education Specialist through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.: assess needs, resources, and capacity for health education/promotion; plan and implement health education/promotion; conduct evaluation and research related to health education/promotion; administer and manage health education/promotion; serve as a health education/promotion resource person; communicate, promote, and advocate for health, health education/promotion, and the profession. Students are encourage to earn this certification upon graduation with a major in Community Health Education.
