Kiel University, located in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein, is a contemporary state university despite having a history that dates back to 1665. Situated in the state capital, it is the biggest and most established campus inside the state and a leading employer in the area. 

The university offers international summer schools, which provide potential students a chance to visit and experience both the academic environment and the subject matter they are interested in. The botanical garden, known as the Botanischer Garten Kiel, is a popular destination for both tourists and students. The exhibits feature both foreign and local species.

The institution began with four faculty and has subsequently grown to eight. These include the faculties of law, science and mathematics, theology, business, economics, social sciences, agriculture and nutrition, the arts and humanities, and engineering. Around 24,000 students are served overall, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and they have access to 185 distinct degree programs covering about 80 academic areas. The university's specialized scientific profile draws a large number of students from the surrounding area as well as from within Germany and beyond.

According to U.S News and World University, Kiel University ranks 209 in Agricultural Science, 280 in Biology and Biochemistry, 660 in Chemistry, 197 in Clinical Medicine, 645 in Engineering, 72 in Oncology, and 442 in Social Sciences and Public Health.  

Employability Ranking

According to US News and World Report for 2022, Kiel University ranks #301-500 in Graduate Employability Rankings (2019).
