The oldest Technical University (similar to an institute of technology in the American system) in Germany is the Technical University of Braunschweig, or TU Braunschweig. It was initially established as Collegium Carolinum in 1745 and is a part of TU9, an organization made up of the biggest and most well-known technical institutes in Germany. It is frequently listed as one of Germany's best institutions for engineering. The research profile of TU Braunschweig is highly broad, however it is primarily focused on manufacturing, life sciences, metrology, autonomous driving and electric mobility, aeronautics, and vehicle engineering.
