Located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, McGill university is a public research institution that offers courses in English. The University of McGill University was founded in 1813 by the bequest of a Scottish businessman by the name of James McGill. The University of McGill College was formed by royal charter in 1821. The institution was formally renamed McGill University in 1885.

 

Acceptance Rate 

For undergraduate students in the Autumn of 2022, McGill University had an acceptance rate of 39.4%, while the acceptance rate for graduate students was 32.25%. Undergraduate applications are currently more competitive than they were previously, notwithstanding a slight increase in the acceptance rate for graduate admissions. Overall, admissions to McGill are quite tough at both levels.

 

Admission Eligibility Criteria  

  • International students must have finished high school with at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point to enrol in undergraduate courses at McGill University. A reputable educational board should have awarded the degree.
  • In order to maximise their chances of admission, international students must meet IELTS minimum score requirements of 7 and TOEFL requirements of 27. 
  • It's crucial to have a Statement of Purpose (SOP). During the application process, students must submit a SOP. 
  • It is required to submit letters of recommendation from former academic staff at a previous educational institution. 
  • It is required to have ACT and SAT scores.

 

Documents Required  

  • Official transcripts of all schools and colleges, which must be confirmed and translated by a recognised educational organisation, and a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college with at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale is required.

Test Requirements  

  • Undergraduate Admissions: Regardless of applicants' nationality, entrance to McGill University is extremely competitive. At McGill University, an undergraduate applicant must have a minimum GPA of 85% to be considered for admission; however, most students who enrol have average GPAs of 90% or higher. January 15 is the cutoff date for undergraduate admission at McGill for the upcoming autumn semester. Before March 15, all supporting documentation must be supplied.
  • Graduate Admissions: It is advised to get a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or a GPA in the range of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale during the last two years of full-time study.
  • IELTS 6.0, TOEFL-IBT 80–100, and PTE 652 are the minimum requirements for English proficiency.
