University of South Dakota Ranking 2024

Located in Vermillion, South Dakota, the University of South Dakota (USD) is a public research university. created in 1862, 27 years before the state of South Dakota was formed, by the legislature of the Dakota Territory. 

The university is home to the only law and medical schools in South Dakota. The National Music Museum, which has more than 15,000 American, European, and non-Western instruments, is also located there. Sheila Gestring is the president of the South Dakota Board of Regents, which oversees USD. Since 1913, the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools has granted the university its accreditation. The University is described as "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity". A total of 17 Truman Scholars, 12 Rhodes Scholars, and 1 Nobel Laureate (Ernest Lawrence '22, 1939 Nobel Prize in Physics) are among the alumni of the University of South Dakota. 

The University of South Dakota is situated on a 216-acre (87 hectare) campus in the southeast portion of the state, close to the Missouri River, atop bluffs. Old Main is the most noticeable academic building on campus and one of the university's emblems.
