In Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) is a public research institution. It is regarded as one of the "Public Ivies" and the flagship institution of the University of North Carolina system. One of the country's oldest public universities, the university was chartered in 1789 and only started accepting students in 1795. 

The College of Arts & Sciences serves as the university's administrative hub, and it offers degrees in over 70 different academic fields through 13 different professional schools. It belongs to the Association of American Universities (AAU) and is categorized as one of the "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very High Research Activity" institutions. The Morehead Planetarium and the numerous businesses on Franklin Street are all included within the 729-acre campus, which is located in the heart of Chapel Hill. Over 550 formally recognized student organizations are available to students.
