The main San Marcos campus of Texas State University is situated in the southern portion of the Austin metropolitan area, and the Round Rock campus is situated in the northern portion. The institution has expanded to become one of the biggest in the country since it was founded in 1899. In the autumn semester of 2023, Texas State University attained a record enrollment of 38,873 students, maintaining a trend of enrollment expansion over a number of years.

Situated on 492 acres of hilly terrain, Texas State University's main campus, San Marcos Campus, is made up of 245 buildings in total. Additionally, Round Rock Campus in Greater North Austin serves as a satellite campus for it. Five thousand members of the university community volunteer for the one-day "Bobcat Build" initiative, which is led by students. Texas State University offers 211 undergraduate programs across multiple domains to both domestic and international students. Students at the university have access to 92 graduate programs. Texas State University offers ten distinct academic departments for undergraduate and graduate programs.
