In St. Cloud, Minnesota, Saint Cloud State University was established in 1869. The first institution, known as the Third State Normal School, was housed in a refurbished hotel with five faculty members and dormitories on the top floor. In 1898, the institution started providing junior college courses. After changing its name to St. Cloud State Teachers College in 1921, the school started offering bachelor's degrees in 1925 and added a master's program in 1953. Since then, the university has expanded its curriculum and added new structures to its campus. After restructuring its academic divisions, St. Cloud State College became St. Cloud State University in 1975.  

With more than 15,000 students, St. Cloud has flourished over the years to become one of the state's biggest universities. In addition to offering two PhD programs, the university offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and master's level courses. The university's eight colleges and schools provide more than 200 majors, minors, and pre-professional courses for students to choose from. The Herberger Business School, the College of Science and Engineering, the School of the Arts, the College of Liberal Arts, the School of Computing, Engineering & Environment, the School of Education, and the School of Health and Human Services are among them.
