New York University (NYU) is a private research university in New York City. NYU was formed in 1832 by a group of New Yorkers under the leadership of Albert Gallatin as a non-denominational, all-male college near City Hall with a curriculum centred on a secular education. NYU was first chartered by the New York State Legislature in 1831. The institution relocated in 1833, but has kept its primary location in the neighbourhood of Greenwich Village near Washington Square Park. The institution has since launched graduate programmes all across Manhattan and an engineering school in Brooklyn's MetroTech Centre.  With 51,848 students enrolled, including 26,733 undergraduate and 25,115 graduate students in 2019, NYU has surpassed all other private universities in the country in terms of enrollment.

Acceptance Rate  
New York University's (NYU) admittance rate changes from year to year. The acceptance rate was 21% in 2020. Recent data, however, indicate that the acceptance rate has been declining over time. The admission percentage, for instance, was 12% for the class of 2025 and further decreased to 8% for the class of 2027.

Admission eligibility criteria  
In order to increase your chances of admission to New York University, you should
possess a high school GPA of at least 3.79
get As in your high school work.
SAT score of 1510
ACT score of 33
submit letters of recommendation from your teachers.

Documents required  
For those who are accepted, New York University requires the following documentation:1
1. Final Transcripts and Proof of Graduation Policy: New York University requires all admitted students to show proof of high school graduation and final transcripts from all institutions attended prior to enrolling at NYU.
2. High School Graduation Proof: A copy of your high school diploma must be submitted before the start of the first semester of coursework at NYU.
3. Official college transcripts from every institution or university attended prior to enrolling at NYU must be submitted by accepted transfer students.
4. International Documents: Students who attended colleges or high schools outside of the US must transmit official transcripts from those institutions to our partner, Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), for validation.

Test Requirements  
New York University has some of the most lenient testing policies of any college or university. The following are the requirements for admission to NYU. Standardised testing has been removed from NYU's admissions criteria as of 2020. In other words, they have not required testing. This indicates that you can apply to NYU without submitting your SAT or ACT scores.
You should: - 
Have a high school GPA of 3.79 or higher to have the best chance of being admitted to New York University.
Receive A- ratings in high school.
Send letters of recommendation from your professors.
