Located in Huntington, West Virginia, Marshall University is a public research university. There are nine undergraduate colleges at the university. The North Central Association's Higher Learning Commission has granted the institute its accreditation since its founding in 1837. With an intake of more than 12,000 students, the institute is currently providing higher education thanks to highly skilled staff members, 88% of whom hold PhDs.

Approximately 3 percent of students are foreigners studying in the United States, having come from 56 different countries. The Institute is well-known because of its small class sizes (20 students), abundance of activities, and secure residential living. 

Marshall University is home to three graduate schools, nine undergraduate schools, and a regional cancer research center. About 60 undergraduate programs, 56 graduate programs, and 35 graduate certificate programs are available at the university. The university's most popular courses are in general education, forensic science, business administration, and biology. Additionally, Marshall provides a range of graduate certificates, each worth 12–21 credits. Furthermore, learners can choose from four doctorate courses and two associate programs.
