The private liberal arts university Loyola Marymount University (LMU) is located in Los Angeles. A Catholic university resulting from the 1973 merger of Loyola University and Marymount College, it was established in 1911 from the remnants of Saint Vincent's College for boys. The university was founded on a 16th-century Jesuit educational philosophy.

At the undergraduate and graduate levels, LMU offers over 100 distinct programs throughout its four colleges and three schools. Its 142-acre campus, which has been recognized with numerous environmental awards, is situated north of LAX, one of the busiest airports in the world, and west of the town, close to the Pacific Ocean. 

The second-most populous city in the United States, Los Angeles is well-known for its hotels, beaches, sports, and the original Disneyland. It is well-known for a number of reasons, including its thriving global film industry. Numerous well-known alumni have come from LMU's School of Film and Television. Both Emmy-winning director Jack Haley Jr. and actress Mila Kunis, who is best recognized for her work in Max Payne, Black Swan, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, attended LMA. Mark Volman, a singer-songwriter and The Turtles co-founder, is among the other alumni.
