Private Ivy League research institution Cornell University is situated in Ithaca, New York. Andrew Dickson White and Ezra Cornell founded the university in 1865. Since its inception, Cornell has been a co-educational, non-sectarian university with open admissions regardless of race or religion. More than 15,000 undergraduate and 7,000 graduate students from all 50 U.S. states and 130 other nations made up the class for the fall 2022 semester.

At its main campus in Ithaca, the institution is divided into seven undergraduate colleges and seven graduate divisions, with each college and division setting its own entrance requirements and academic programs with a high degree of autonomy. Three satellite campuses are also run by the institution, two of which are in New York City and one in Qatar's Education City district. Numerous off-campus research centers are owned and run by Cornell University, which also provides study abroad and scholarship opportunities. These resources and initiatives support the university's research initiatives while giving students access to cutting-edge educational opportunities. As of Fall 2021, the total number of students in the University is 25,593, with 15,507 undergraduates and 10,086 postgraduates.
