Exeter, Devon, England, United Kingdom, is home to the public research institution known as the institution of Exeter. St Luke's College, Exeter School of Science, Exeter School of Art, and Camborne School of Mines, which were its predecessor institutions, were founded in 1838, 1855, 1863, and 1888, respectively. After gaining their royal charters in 1955, these institutions subsequently merged to establish the University of Exeter. The university includes four campuses: Streatham and St. Luke's in Exeter; Truro and Penryn in Cornwall; and Penryn and Truro in Exeter. The university's main location is in Exeter, Devon, where it serves as the primary higher education facility. The largest campus, Streatham, is home to numerous university’s administrative structures.

Under the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) program, Falmouth University and the Penryn campus jointly maintain the campus. There are over 1.2 million physical library resources available at the Exeter Streatham Campus Library, including unique collections and antique journals. The total number of students in the University is 32,465, as of 2022, with 23,755 undergraduates and 8,710 postgraduates.
