Located on England's south coast, the University of Brighton is a public university with four campuses: one in Brighton and one in Eastbourne. Its origins date back to 1858, when the Royal Pavilion hosted the opening of the Brighton School of Art. In 1992, it was given university status.

The bulk of degrees granted by the university are also accepted by professional groups or lead to professional certifications, with an emphasis on practical, creative, and professional education. Pharmacy, engineering, ecology, computing, mathematics, geology, architecture, nursing, teaching, sport science, journalism, criminology, and business are among the topics covered. There are 2,400 employees and about 18,000 pupils. The university is ranked in the top 100 globally for art and design by the QS World University Rankings.
