The University of Birmingham, situated in Birmingham, England, is a public research university. It was established in 1825 as the Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery. The University of Birmingham was granted university status in 1900 by royal charter. 

The University of Birmingham has two main campuses that span 672 acres at Edgbaston and Sally Oaks. Stratford-upon-Avon, Ironbridge, Coniston (Cumbria), and Ansty (Coventry) are additional campuses for the university. In Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), the university additionally established an international campus. The campus of the University of Birmingham is very diversified. There are over 38,000 students enrolled there overall, of whom about 23.6% are foreigners from more than 150 different nations. The University of Birmingham has lax admission standards. The University of Birmingham has a 74% acceptance rate. 

The University of Birmingham provides 140 research courses, over 600 postgraduate courses, and about 350 undergraduate courses. The university provides the MA/MSc, MRes by Research, and Doctor of Philosophy as its three research degrees. Six colleges at the University of Birmingham provide the programs.

According to QS Top Universities, the University of Birmingham ranks #121 in the QS WUR Ranking by Subject 2024.  According to THE 2023 rankings, it ranks 90 in Arts and Humanities, 66 in Clinical, Pre-clinical and Health, 126-150 in Engineering and Technology, 101-125 in Physical Sciences, 151-175 in Social Sciences, 101-125 in Business and Economics, and 101-125 in Life Sciences. 

Employability Ranking

In terms of employer reputation, the University of Birmingham is placed 61st globally by the QS World University Rankings. The university was ranked 11th in the UK by The Guardian University Guide 2020 for job possibilities.
