The University of Bremen, located in northwest Germany, was founded in 1971 with the intention of providing teacher education. With 20,000 students already enrolled, it provides a wide range of academic programs with a focus on the social sciences, humanities, and natural and engineering sciences.

Bremen is thought to be a significant hub for science. The University of Bremen was named a "City of Science" in 2005, and it was one of just 11 German universities to be recognized as such in 2012 when it was named a "University of Excellence." Numerous autonomous research facilities on campus that are connected to the university through joint professorships enhance its scientific credentials. With the Max Planck Society and the Leibniz Association among them, Bremen is home to one of the world's largest communities of scientists.

Bremen has twelve faculties in total: Engineering, Geosciences, Business Studies and Economics, Pedagogy and Educational Sciences, Languages and Literary Studies, Human and Health Studies, Biology and Chemistry, Physics and Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Law, and Social Sciences.
