Located in Lower Bavaria, Germany, the Deggendorf Institute of Technology was established as a University of Applied Sciences in 1994. The Deggendorf Institute of Technology, in collaboration with Charles Sturt University, offers PhD programs in addition to its undergraduate and graduate courses. Its campus now includes a number of brand-new structures.

1994 saw the founding of the Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT). Since 1998, the campus beside the Danube has been in use. In 1999, the R&D labs were constructed. 2001 saw the opening of the Innovation and Technology Campus Deggendorf. The bachelor's and master's degree titles were adopted in 2007 after faculties were created in 2006. On October 1, 2013, Deggendorf University officially changed its name to Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT).

Both foreign and German students can receive advice and counselling from the university's International Office. Students are taught oral proficiency and listening comprehension at the Language Centre. German is available as a foreign language course, along with English, Czech, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. The institute is affiliated with the World Tourism Organization.
