Located in Chemnitz, Germany, Chemnitz University of Technology is a public institution. It's Saxony's third-biggest university, with more than nine thousand students. Originally named Royal Mercantile College, it was established in 1836 and became a Technische Hochschule, or university of technology, in 1963. One of the biggest employers in the area is Chemnitz University of Technology, which employs about 1,500 people in management, engineering, and science.

Due to its expansion, Chemnitz University of Technology now has buildings spread around Chemnitz. The main campus is located on Reichenhainer Staße. The university is currently divided into four sections:

• Campus at Straße der Nationen 62
• Campus on Reichenhainer Straße
• Campus on Erfenschlager Straße
• Campus on Wilhelm-Raabe-Straße

A sizable portion of Chemnitz University of Technology's student body is international. Approximately 25% of the 10,482 students enrolled in the winter semester of 2017 were foreign students, numbering 2,712 in total.
