Located in North Bay, Ontario, Nipissing University is a public liberal arts university with a focus on undergraduate studies. Its name comes from the lake it looks out onto, Lake Nipissing. The North Bay Normal School served as the institution's founding institution in the early 1900s. In 1967, it joined Laurentian University as an affiliate, and in 1992, it was granted independence.

The Schulich School of Education, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the School of Graduate Studies, and the Faculty of Applied and Professional Studies make up Nipissing University. Four different nursing programs, teacher preparation courses leading to teaching certificates in Native American classrooms, and business and science-focused college transfer courses are among the programs offered.

The university has made achieving research excellence a higher priority, and as a result, during the past ten years, Nipissing has greatly expanded its research culture. Currently, the institute is drawing corporate money, research grants, and tri-council support. The institution maintains a satellite campus in Southern Ontario and shares its main campus in North Bay with Canadore College. Students will experience a top-notch learning environment that is student-centered, built on individualized instruction, cutting-edge teaching strategies, and a developing research culture.
