Carleton University, located in Ottawa, Ontario, is a public English-language university. When it was first established in 1942 as Carleton College, the college served returning World War II veterans as a non-denominational, private evening college. The provincial government established Carleton as a university in 1952.

Undergraduate students at Carleton University can choose from 64 majors and 19 minors. Engineering, journalism, international business, and media studies are the top majors for international students in higher education. The institution offers six certificate programs in addition to 69 graduate programs. In addition, seven post-baccalaureate diploma programs are offered to UG students.

The Carleton University campus is located next to the Rideau Canal, an official historic UNESCO World Heritage Site, south of Ottawa's downtown. The university's campus covers an area of 62 hectares. The institution has a Canada-India center for excellence in research, trade, technology, and policy between the two nations.
