Carnegie Mellon University, situated in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a private research university. Andrew Carnegie founded the organization in 1900 under the name Carnegie Technical Schools. It started offering four-year degrees in 1912 after changing its name to the Carnegie Institute of Technology. It merged with the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research in 1967, becoming the current Carnegie Mellon University.

The university has 14,000 students, of which 35% are from 115 different countries. At Carnegie Mellon University, there are hundreds of programs available to international and domestic students through 7 schools and colleges.

The 140-acre CMU campus is located in an urban area. The campus of Carnegie Mellon University is located 3 miles from Pittsburgh's city center.
