What is Transportation Engineering

Civil engineering has various branches including transportation engineering which deals with formulation and execution of transportation networks for instance roads, bridges and other related infrastructure. The disciplinary area focuses its attention on all types of means of transportation such as roads, bridges, railways, aerodromes and public transportation systems. The transportation engineer focuses on enhancing the motions of people and goods taking into account safety and sustainability. These include the planning of road networks, traffic control and management systems and public transportation systems, as well as problems regarding traffic congestion, air quality and infrastructure maintenance.
