What is Sports Journalism

Go back

Sports journalism, a distinctive form of reporting dedicated to sports subjects and events, has gained increasing relevance with sports' growing financial, influential, and societal impact. Despite occasional ridicule from certain publications that argue the sports department doesn't address substantial issues, every news organization must have a dedicated sports section. Noteworthy examples of media outlets exclusively committed to sports coverage include France's L'Equipe, Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport, the now-closed Sporting Life in Britain, and prominent American publications such as Sports Illustrated and Sporting News.
