Newcastle University is a public research university in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Newcastle University is a Russell Group member with one of the largest EU research portfolios in the country. 

 The University’s origins may be traced to the School of Medicine and Surgery (later the College of Medicine), which was founded in 1834, and the College of Physical Science (later called Armstrong College), which was formed in 1871.
