Georgian Court University

Georgian Court University, located in Lakewood, New Jersey, is a private Catholic University founded and sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. In 2004, the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education granted the status of a university. The university ranked #101 in the 2023 Best Colleges in Regional Universities North.
While it was established as a women’s college, Georgian Court University became fully coeducational in 2013 after introducing coeducational graduate and undergraduate evening programs. The university offers more than 35 undergraduate degrees, 10 graduate degrees, and a variety of certificate courses. The university has 92 full-time faculty members with an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio and additional 170 industry professionals as adjunct faculty. Currently, there are 1,793 undergraduate students enrolled, and 90% of them receive aid from the university. The Middle States Commission accredits Georgian Court University on Higher Education.
The campus, located at the shores of Lake Carasaljo, is both a National Arboretum Site and a National Historic Site. For the overall development of the students, there are more than 40 clubs and organizations. The campus has 5 athletic fields and a 67,000-square-foot wellness center. The casino on the campus is a notable landmark, with a tennis court, ballroom, and bowling alley available.
The university offers graduate programs in major nursing and health courses. Students can enroll in Master’s studies in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis, Clinical Mental Health Counselling, and Nursing. Other than these, students can also go for graduation in Criminal Justice and Human Rights and Communication and Digital Marketing Online. GCU offers many Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs online for students who wish to opt for distance learning. The university also offers degree courses in partnership with Brookdale Community College and Rowan College Of South Jersey-Cumberland Campus.
Notable alums of Georgian Court University include politicians Moira K. Lyons and Marlene Lynch Ford. Moira K. Lyons was the former Connecticut House of Representatives speaker, and Marlene Lynch Ford was a politician with the American Democratic Party. Barbara Simpson, a retired TV reporter, and news anchor, also studied at Georgian Court University.
