The Master of Media Practice focuses on content production in the dynamic and increasingly global field of media and communications. Areas of study include broadcast and online journalism, media liaison, writing for media, social media communication, feature writing, ethical and legal issues, and international media practice.

This course will broaden your written and spoken communication skills as well as your production skills in print, broadcast and online media. You will also develop a sophisticated understanding of media industries, audiences and global media environments.

Choose from a range of media-related electives to best reflect your individual skills and interests, such as financial journalism, health, United States politics, podcasting and interviewing. Our internship elective offers you an opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a range of media-related companies.

The graduate diploma and graduate certificate courses provide shorter avenues to update and extend your professional skills or explore new career directions.

Offering a truly international perspective, this double degree course combines a Master of Journalism at Monash (in Melbourne, Australia) with a Master of Arts taught in the Department of Politics and International Studies at Warwick University (in Coventry, England).  You will be prepared for careers in international journalism or international relations combined with communications. This in-the-field integration of global politics and journalism through study in Europe and Australia has been designed by leading practitioners across both fields. It develops the skills needed to meet the current and future challenges faced by journalism and international relations practitioners globally.

The MPhil/PhD programme provides a route for you carry out a piece of research that will make a distinctive contribution to knowledge in the fields of education, culture and communication. You will work closely with your supervisor(s) to develop your project, supported by a flexible programme of methodology courses and a strong research community of staff and doctoral students. This programme is available to study both face-to-face and online.

For students who want to focus solely on broadcast media and filmmaking, we also offer an MSc in Science Media Production.

Through a mix of academic and practical modules, we will encourage you to develop your creative and intellectual abilities, working on ideas that communicate science, technology and medicine in original and effective ways and to a professional standard.

Our academic modules draw on work in the humanities and social sciences to help you think afresh about the relationship between science and society, the potentials and constraints of the media environment, and the challenges these pose for science communication.

A final dissertation project gives you the opportunity to research in-depth a topic of your choice.

The course also develops skills in technical practice through a programme of practical options in which you can develop specialisms in particular media. The practical modules benefit from our in-house TV and radio facilities. We are also fortunate to be close to the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum, which provide excellent material for museum studies work.

The course includes a work placement at a media company or other science communication organisation.

The majority of the teaching is by Science Communication Unit staff. This is supplemented with the expertise of professionals drawn from our wide network of industry contacts.

Global Media and Communication MA takes an interdisciplinary and critical approach to the exponential growth of global media. Join Warwick's Centre for Cultural and Media Policy Studies to gain in-depth understanding of how media are produced and consumed, implicated in political and social change, and how media is increasingly shaping the world in which we live.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution 

A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (4.0 scale) 

A college-level course in statistics with a minimum grade of 2.0 (4.0 scale) 

At least eight courses in communication disorders at the undergraduate level. Courses must be determined to be equivalent to the New Paltz minimum specified courses listed below and must have been completed in the last 10 years. These courses may be in progress at the time of application but must be completed prior to entry into the program.

The degree prepares students to communicate technical information to diverse audiences. Students learn to compose and edit written, visual, and multimodal content that is clear, concise, and usable. The curriculum addresses the humanistic, rhetorical, and ethical foundations of the technical communication field. 

The Department of Communication Studies at Eastern Illinois University is proud to be one of the few programs in the region to offer graduate students an option area in communication pedagogy. As a department in a teaching-focused institution we have long valued the importance of training individuals to teach communication well and communicate well while teaching.

The option area has evolved from a curriculum focused on preparing students to teach speech at community colleges to a more holistic and customizable program that covers a range of theories and practices related to communication pedagogy.

The Master of Arts degree in Communication emphasizes both theoretical and applied knowledge. The general communication program offers students higher levels of knowledge, skills, theory, research, and practical experience in the communication discipline. Students often participate in seminars and work one-on-one with faculty members . Graduates of the program pursue professional careers in a broad range of business and educational organizations, or they continue their graduate education beyond the masters level.

The Master of Arts in Communication program helps professionals advance or switch their careers. Although our diverse group of students is already working in the field of communication and looking for additional training to advance, some are transitioning from another field. Regardless, the majority of our graduates testify that the master’s degree helps with getting a new position. Our alumni are managers, directors, vice presidents, presidents, and other leaders in various organizations, such as government agencies, associations, nonprofits, and corporations. This degree provides a great opportunity to hone or perfect your communication skills, learning from leaders in the field. It is not necessarily a path to a PhD program in that it is geared toward providing practical, leading-edge skills that will prepare students to be leaders in the field.

Journalists have traditionally sought to provide news and information in an accurate, timely and accessible manner to enable the public to make informed decisions. Yet journalism is in flux, with the digital age blurring boundaries of news production and consumption between professionals, citizens and activists. The aim at the UBC Master of Journalism program is to develop graduates who understand the evolving media environment and who are able to use journalistic practices to contribute to meaningful public discourse across all forms of media.

The M.S. program is designed to meet the goals of three types of students: 1) students who have recently earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism or a related field and want to explore a specific type of journalism in greater depth, 2) mid-career journalists who want to expand their professional skills, and 3) students who either hold or are pursuing a terminal degree in selected fields (including but not limited to science, technology, engineering and math) seeking to complement their expertise with journalistic skills for communicating it to the public.
