Bachelors in Journalism Abroad

The Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications) honours year is both a preparation for postgraduate study and a capstone to an undergraduate degree. Honours can be the culmination of your formal education, an experience that extends your intellectual range, hones your research abilities, as well as analytical and communication techniques, and helps you to develop the personal and professional skills needed to see a research project though to completion.

This course may be suitable for undergraduate students with one major.

Honours can also be the first step on a path to a career as an academic or professional researcher. The honours year comprises seminar classes and work toward a short thesis on an independent research project under the supervision of an academic staff member who is an expert in the field of your research.

UCL's Media BA is aimed at ambitious future media professionals. The three-year course combines the highest standards of academic and critical rigour with media practice and state-of-the-art professional skills, providing the opportunity to take up a work placement drawing on London's rich media environment in the second year.

On this programme, we encourage you to find individual approaches through directing work in documentary, drama or experimental film. Through exercises and short films, we also nurture work which challenges norms and boundaries of film or cinematography.

The Digital Media Production program offers students an opportunity to develop cutting-edge professional skills that will prepare them to succeed in the growing and diverse field of digital media. Production majors learn the importance of engaging storytelling, solid research, and careful attention to ethical considerations; they likewise learn how technology allows them to communicate effectively. By utilizing writing and production skills in the classroom as well as in the surrounding community, students demonstrate their ability to use the latest tools of digital audio and video to create high-quality, marketable content for film and television.

Majors in Digital Media Programming & Management (known informally as "Media Management") prepare for management positions across the various media, including such areas as advertising, global media systems, law, research, and programming. Students develop the necessary knowledge and skills through theoretical and practical courses ranging from research and writing to business and managerial courses. The program ensures full exposure to new and emerging technologies and the business functions associated with them. For many, classroom study is put to the real-world test via internships with leading media companies.

Strong communication skills are key to every profession, so WOU’s major in this field has far-reaching applications. You’ll get the skills you need to meet the challenges of professions that require strong organizational, interpersonal and intercultural communication abilities. Choose this major if you want to work in areas such as government and politics, business communication, or communication and outreach, to name a few.

If you want a career as a content creator for TV, radio, interactive advertising, game design or other audio-video production areas, then the Creative Digital Media program may be your best fit. 

The Multimedia Journalism option focuses on the preparation of students for careers in all aspects of news production. Our students learn to tell stories and report information that will be distributed on multiple platforms. On our NEWS3 TV newscast, students learn to gather news, cover news events, edit news packages and produce and direct half-hour live newscasts that reach Macomb and McDonough County viewers. Students will also learn to write for print and digital-based media. There are opportunities to be reporters and anchors (news, weather and sports), as well as to produce and direct newscasts. Many of our students also contribute to the student-run newspaper, the Western Courier.

Business Communication courses focus on both persuasive communication techniques and the use of graphics and visual presentations software to create highly professional presentations. Faculty focus on developing strong oral presentation skills in all Business Communication classes. Students in this major will also complete three levels of writing courses that teach the foundations of effective writing up to complex memoranda and transactional documents. Additionally, students will receive a strong foundation of coursework in a broad range of communication strategies and theories to develop enhanced team-building and leadership skills necessary in a modern professional environment. Courses will include content exploring the importance of effective intercultural communication, the development of interpersonal skills, social media, and the role of media and technology in the modern marketplace.

Communication Studies majors learn human interactions and skills including: public speaking, academic writing, relationship maintenance and ethical strategies. This scholarship results in an environment in which lifelong learners thrive. We offer 5 different degree emphases, and a degree completion program. Endicott’s digital journalism program produces storytellers who are passionate about building upon traditional journalistic skills through the constantly-changing lens of digital media.

Coursework will explore the history and contemporary landscape of multimedia journalism. Students will explore specialized topics such as broadcast journalism, sports and beat reporting, and journalistic ethics. Through experiential learning opportunities, students have the opportunity to explore different areas of digital journalism firsthand in order to determine their career focus.

The impact that journalism has on society, from both historical and current perspectives, is central to this concentration. Digital journalism students may choose to seek careers in print media, broadcasting, online publishing, podcasting and public relations.

The greatest demand in media and communication fields today is for cross-trained individuals who can move with confidence and agility among all areas including film/television production, journalism, broadcasting, post production, and digital marketing.

This program fulfills the LTU mission of  "Theory and Practice" by offering students a background in critical film and media studies that is balanced with market-ready skills in media production. After graduation, students are prepared for a variety of careers in the studio, on location, and in the digital world.

Our communication studies program combines liberal arts and professional courses with opportunities for hands-on learning. Sure, you’ll study communication theories and concepts. Communication studies is an excellent standalone major that is flexible enough to also work as a double major or dual degree for any other field.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in media from the University of Mount Union integrates a variety of topics including the foundations, history and analysis of media along with audio and video storytelling production skills.

With the constantly changing media landscape, our media major requirements and curriculum will provide you with the knowledge and flexibility for a competitive advantage in the job market. Those who pursue a degree in media will have the skills suitable for a variety of careers including social media, narrative video production, film production, documentary storytelling, and sports broadcasting. If you are not interested in production, we also have a media studies path that prepares students for graduate school.
