The sport and recreation leadership concentration is designed to empower students with the education and skill sets necessary to succeed and become a leader in the sport or recreation industries.

Sport and recreation are competitive markets, so our faculty is comprised of professionals who have actually worked in a sport and/or recreation field. Real world experience and understanding of the practical knowledge and skills that students will need in their careers provide the edge that they will need to move ahead and stay ahead of the herd.

The Master of Science degree in Kinesiology prepares students to (a) progress in a professional career in exercise and fitness, rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise, physical education teaching, community leadership; or the sports industry; and (b) embark on further graduate study in a doctoral program in Kinesiology or a related discipline.

A total of 30 units are required for graduation. This includes the common core (16 units), an option (12 units), and a culminating experience (2 units).  At least 16 units must be at the 5000-level, and at least 16 units must be in Kinesiology. No more than 9 units of KIN 5980, Graduate Directed Study, may be included.  To develop the 30 unit course of study, each student consults with an assigned graduate adviser who must approve the courses selected. Approval of the student’s graduate adviser is a specific prerequisite for enrollment in KIN 5990, Thesis or Project, and students must enroll in a total of 2 units to complete this course..

Our graduate degree program in Athletic Training is a six-semester, full-time, year-round master’s program. Students are admitted once a year and begin classes in June as a cohort.

In our master’s in athletic training program, you’ll have the ability to become a dual-credentialed healthcare professional and have the option to earn additional supplemental certifications.

This graduate program is designed to develop a theoretical base in the discipline of sport and exercise psychology; and better prepare students, coaches, and consultants to apply such knowledge to performance enhancement issues associated with competitive athletics and exercise settings.Students work directly with local college, high school and recreational athletes; and, can work towards certification at the same time. The courses in our program count towards certification, as does students' work with exercisers and athletes.

The Master of Science in Athletic Training Program reflects the requirements of the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), and students who want to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination must complete this degree. This program prepares students to prevent, diagnose, and intervene medical conditions that include impairment, functional limitations, and disability. Students will have the ability to integrate classroom and didactic knowledge into a real-world clinical experience and use evidence-based research to lead and succeed as a highly skilled health professional.

This graduate program offered by the Department of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation provides advanced coursework and training in the area of sports administration. The degree program is designed to prepare students for leadership and supervisory positions within school, recreation, and commercial sports programs.

The Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science program is designed with the choice of two concentrations for degree completion. The Exercise Science concentration is for graduates interested in learning about human performance, disease prevention, and cardiac rehabilitation. The Physical Education, Sport, and Recreation concentration is for graduates interested in learning about the management of programs and facilities in physical education, sport, and recreation.

The MS in Sport and Recreation Studies meets the growing need for professionals and academics through concentrations in the areas of Recreation Administration, Sport and Leisure Studies, Sport Management, and Individualized Study in Sport, Recreation, and Tourism.

The Sport Management Graduate Certificate with concentrations in Sport Coaching and International Sport Management may be taken in conjunction with the MS SRST degree or as a standalone option. 

The MS in Sport Coaching Leadership program is an online master's program in the School of Education. The MS degree will prepare students in the areas of coaching theory, development of a coaching philosophy, understanding of the needs of athletes, recruitment, compliance, and program planning. The program will also expose students to comparative, global coaching models and allows for hands-on opportunities in the form of three practicums. The goal of the program is to prepare students for coaching careers in sport-based youth development, scholastic, collegiate, club, or professional coaching environments.

Students in the MS in Sport Coaching Leadership program will take 33.0 credits of core courses in the coaching curriculum and then select 12.0 credits in a specialization. Academic advisors will work closely with each student to determine the best academic plan.

The University offers a master of science (M.S.) in athletic training that prepare evidence-based, patient-centered clinicians who are able to think critically in an ever-changing healthcare landscape.

This 30-credit track is an advanced program to understand best practices and the most updated research in the field of teaching and learning in HPE. This research track concludes with a student-lead thesis project. The practice track concludes with a student internship. The emphasis areas include adapted physical education, coaching education, and curriculum & instruction for teaching licensure.

The M.S. in Athletic Training prepares students for national certification and licensure as a certified athletic trainer with career opportunities in high schools, colleges/universities, orthopedic and sports medicine clinics, business and industry, professional sports teams, government health agencies, branches of the U.S. military, and research laboratories.

The emphases of the curriculum are: evidence based practice, risk management and injury prevention, pathology of injuries and illnesses, acute care of injuries and illnesses, pharmacology, therapeutic modalities, therapeutic exercise, general medical conditions and disabilities, nutritional aspects of injuries and illnesses, psychosocial intervention and referral, healthcare administration, and professional development and responsibilities.  Students are given opportunities to gain knowledge and skills needed to pass the certification exam of the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Training.

This is a 60-credit program for people interested in Athletic Training.

The Athletic Training program at the University of Miami is a graduate professional program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program is designed to provide a structured classroom and clinical experience to prepare students to become eligible to sit for the Board of Certification exam.

Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician. As a part of the health care team, services provided by ATs include injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination, and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

The MSAA online degree program is specifically designed to prepare teachers, coaches, and athletic professionals for a career in middle school or high school athletic administration.

The goal of the Master of Science in Sport Business program is to prepare future leaders in the areas of policymaking, management, supervision, education, and research. The program provides for the analysis of current trends, problems, and policies that affect sport and leisure services. Designed to provide a multifaceted approach to the study of sport business, the program is structured to prepare students for a wide range of career opportunities in athletic administration, marketing and promotions, recreation and event management, and sport analytics.

The University of Southern Maine (USM) Master of Science in Athletic Training prepares students to become athletic trainers (ATs) in a growing health care field. ATs are qualified health care providers educated in prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation of orthopedic and non-orthopedic conditions. They are employed in a variety of settings including athletics, physician practices, hospitals, performing arts, work-place care, military, and public safety. The AT program at USM values hands-on experience and has designed the second year to combine online courses with immersive clinical education. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), and upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the national Board of Certification exam.

Athletic trainers are healthcare providers who provide point of care for patients in a variety of settings. Students will learn how to prevent, diagnose, and treat injuries and illness related to physical activity. As an athletic trainer, you’ll engage in interprofessional practice with a variety of healthcare providers, including physicians and nurses,  to provide patient-centered care that results in patient participation in athletics, work, and life.
