Students who graduate from Saint Louis University's meteorology programs are trained to be meteorologists. They study the dynamics of air motion; physical processes such as transfer of radiation; and convection resulting in severe storms, flash floods and hurricanes. Research is underway at SLU on heavy precipitation, regional climate and air quality using numerical weather prediction models. Faculty members collaborate with research meteorologists at national centers, as well as operational meteorologists at the St. Louis National Weather Service forecast offices.

SLU is a founding member of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, which manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), in Boulder, Colorado, under the sponsorship of the National Science Foundation and NASA's DEVELOP program.

We offer degrees to qualified students interested in interdisciplinary research with an emphasis on the synthesis, characterization and utilization of nanoscale materials.  All MSP students learn about the interplay of structure, processing, characterization, and properties of materials with useful applications. Our seventeen faculty members are active collaborators with research and development groups located around the world, and are experienced in managing research projects with practical results. Graduates of our program work in research, engineering and process development positions in a variety of fields.

The University of Maine understands there is a growing demand for engineers and scientists with strong fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for analysis, design, manufacturing, and testing of composite materials and structures. In a collaboration between the College of Engineering and the School of Forest Resources, the Composite Materials and Structures graduate certificate builds that knowledge and skills giving students a competitive advantage in the job market.

Through this 12-credit certificate, students will:

• Be introduced to modern composites made of different constituent materials
• Develop skills necessary for analysis, design, fabrication, and testing of modern composite materials and structures
  • Establish the suitability of composite materials and structures for various applications

Are you interested in furthering your background in mathematics or statistics? Do you want a degree that offers a wide variety of career options?

The MA program in mathematics at ECU is designed to give students a strong background in mathematics and statistics, and prepare them for a variety of careers. A student may choose one of three tracks, depending on their interest: mathematics, statistics, and community college teaching. Full-time students complete the program in two years. You will build a solid mathematical/statistical background, as well as develop the skills needed to communicate effectively in these areas. During the second year, you will work closely with a faculty member on a capstone project. For those in the mathematics or statistics track, this is a thesis or research project; for the community college teaching track, this includes a teaching portfolio.

Support for full-time students is available in the form of a teaching assistantship. Our teaching assistants work in math labs and serve as instructors in remedial and lower-level courses.

The graduate program in Materials Science and Engineering aims to provide an education that encompasses both the breadth and depth of the most recent knowledge base in the materials science and engineering fields in a format suitable for individuals seeking careers in academia and/or industry. In addition, the program provides students with research training through their courses and thesis research at the Master of Science and PhD levels. The graduate student body reflects a broad spectrum of undergraduate backgrounds. Because of the expansion into interdisciplinary areas, qualified physical and biological science graduates may also join the program. Students without an undergraduate degree in Materials Science and Engineering are required to take MATE 503 Introduction to Materials Engineering. Graduate programs in materials science and engineering are offered both on a regular full-time and part-time (MS only) basis. The General Aptitude Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for applicants pursuing full-time study.

The Master of Science degree in Materials Science provides students with extensive scientific training, cutting-edge research opportunities and engineering skills necessary for a variety of careers in academy and industry. Program faculty and students conduct research through Kent State's participating departments and the Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute. Such research includes liquid crystal synthesis and molecular design; properties of liquid crystals and related advanced materials; lyotropic liquid crystals and bio-related materials; opto-electronics; and nanoscience and nanotechnologies. These important research foci are inherently interdisciplinary.

Upon completing the MS degree in the field of Materials Science and NanoEngineering, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate an advanced command of Materials Science and NanoEngineering field work.
2. Conduct independent research that demonstrates advanced mastery of a subfield within Materials Science or NanoEngineering.
3. Communicate scientific ideas effectively in writing and when speaking.
